Lift and Exercise Safe

I have found that as I get older and I still like to lift heavy weights and train hard,i have pain in my shoulders when I press with a barbell. I like to train with a barbell more then if I where to train with a machine. I like to sub with dumbellls when I can. I like to use dumbells in general alot of the time. So as Iget older at least I have the option of using dumbells and still be safe about my workpouts. Imm not outnto get the toughest workout of my life anymore but I still want to keep in shape.
