In the beginning, there was awe. And it was plenty. Because not even the outrageous world and stages of Hollywood were prepared to greet the monumental icon named Lady Gaga.
Due to her outrageous appearance, she had so much to demonstrate to the critics and fans – she had to rise to a new level in order to get the accepted long term. And so she did. She is now recognized as not only an outstanding stage performer but also as an actress and activist.
The Meat Dress Episode
Before being magnetized by her voice, the Gaga fans are mesmerized by her looks. No matter the stage or event, she is there to shock the audience with her outfits. Certainly, the most unforgettable, acclaimed and criticized outfit was the meat dress, worn at the 27th Annual MTV Video Music Awards in 2010.
Lady Gaga wore the meat dress on stage as she accepted the Video of the Year Award. Nonetheless, more than being a simple, shocking attire, the outfit had a deeper meaning. As Gaga herself confessed, she wore the meat dress as a protest towards the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy (DADT).
The Born This Way Foundation
In order to get a comprehensive image of Lady Gaga, we must stop for a while and look at her passion for activism. Gaga is also known as an LGBTQ icon, who speaks about queer youth and their struggles. Her foundation, called Born This Way, is not LGBTQ specific, as she aims to create a safer community for youth, battling bullying and discrimination. She spoke best about this community in an interview, where she said: “All voices are heard. All feelings are respected. It’s ok to be different.”
Lady Gaga – The Actress
More than being a great musician, remarkable performer and activist, Lady Gaga has become known over the years as a great actress.
Although everyone looks back at American Horror Story’s Season 5 as her cinematic debut, I must tell you that you sure have seen her as Bertha in Sin City – A Dame to Kill For (2014). Her role as a vampiric countess in the Hotel Season earned Lady Gaga the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards (2016), demonstrating that she is more than a pretty face and voice.
After that, came the Gaga: Five Foot Two (2017) documentary, which “goes behind the scenes with pop provocateur Lady Gaga as she releases a bold new album and prepares for her Super Bowl halftime show” (Source: IMDB). By the way, if you want to find out more about the life behind the icon, you can watch the documentary on Netflix right now.
Well, I believe that tackling the subject of A Star is Born now is futile, as the internet is filled with videos of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper singing Shallow – the earworm whose Oscars’ performance got tears into our eyes and love into our hearts.
